# Hair removal.

Hormone therapy slows new hair growth but doesn\\'t remove existing follicles. Electrolysis is the only permanent option, and here are the trans-friendly providers we recommend.

Timing with HRT

## Hormones reduce growth. Electrolysis removes follicles.

On feminising HRT, oestrogen and testosterone blockers slow body and facial hair growth, but the existing follicles remain capable of producing hair. Many patients pursue electrolysis (the only permanent removal method recognised by NHS guidelines) once their hormone levels stabilise.

Some practitioners prefer to start after several months on HRT so growth has slowed; others will treat from day one. We can write a non-medical referral letter for electrolysis under our standard admin-fee scheme if your provider requires one.

Referral letters

## Referral letters for your electrolysis provider.

If your electrolysis provider requires a non-medical referral letter from a clinician (sometimes called a "letter of support" or "GP letter"), we can issue one confirming you're under hormone therapy at GHC. £59 for pay-as-you-go patients, included in your monthly plan.

Most NHS-funded electrolysis routes (where available) require a referral from a Gender Identity Clinic rather than a private letter. Check the route your funder requires before requesting.
